With great sadness Worksop ladies hockey club announce the passing of former first goalkeeper and England Hockey international Maggie Burrows . Maggie joined Worksop in the early 80’s quickly becoming an important member of the club, and as a P.E teacher at Valley comprehensive school Maggie inspired future players on and off the pitch. After nearly 2 months off, Worksop 2’s returned (finally!) to the pitch today with a brilliant effort against Woodthorpe.Despite the score, the valiant efforts from our defense and goalie were outstanding and we battled off many additional attempts on goal with some great team work. In the last game before Christmas, Worksop 1’s were hoping for some seasonal cheer, but as they welcomed top of the league West Bridgeford, the odds were not in their favour. Worksop 1’s faced Ashfield aztecs in a clash that on paper should have been a comfortable win for Ashfield, but as Worksop have done all season, the home side were up for the battle . Worksop may have been on the back foot most of the half, but it took a scrappy finish for Ashfield to break the deadlock.In the second half again, Worksop upped their attacking game, making the game much more even affair. Worksop 1’s were back on home turf on Saturday facing Southwell, with both teams on the same points, there was never going to be much to separate them. In an even first half , Worksop held a slender advantage thanks to a clinical finish from Chloe.The second half was much more one-sided as Derby stepped up their pace of play and were n rewarded with two quickfire goals.
