Worksop Ladies Hockey Club was established in 1971 and was based at Valley Road Sports Centre, where the first Worksop Ladies hockey team, named ‘Valley Stragglers’, played their first match.

Many local people rallied around and contributed in one way or another.   Susan Bell organised the club and Jenny Mould, a PE teacher at Valley Comprehensive, developed the team. Anne Stockdale, a sewing teacher, made the green wrap-over skirts, fastened with velcro which seemed like a great idea at the time, but perhaps we shouldn’t dwell too much on the various incidents of skirts actually ‘falling off’!

Today, instead of wearing green skirts, we wear maroon skorts, which happen to stay up thankfully. We are incredibly proud of our club’s heritage and also the fact that one of the original players featured in this image still plays with us today.
